Our city is facing a housing crisis, like the rest of the Denver Metro area. Commerce City is home to many amazing people, the people who are the working backbone of the Denver Metro Area. We need to seek out housing investments that will be affordable to our community. I will work with city, county, and state leaders, to ensure Commerce City to implement plans for attainable housing for more Commerce City residents.
Commerce City is a diverse, hard-working city. To thrive we must also benefit from the industries and commerce in our city. I will support the development of beautiful community areas where people can be outside, including parks, residential areas, and shopping districts.
Commerce City is the capitol of commerce for our state. With it comes some of the challenges of industry. We must prioritize policies that ensure our community can be healthy and thrive. I support common-sense environmental regulations to ensure all communities, including low income and communities of color, are protected from pollution and emissions.
As the owner of a trucking company I know the importance of jobs in our freight industry, which relies on oil and gas production. This is also an industry made up of communities of color. I believe we must support our commerce and jobs, and also have a plan for our energy sector to diversify and provide more green options including in the freight industry and for union workers.
I will prioritize working with our schools, from early childhood through higher education, to provide education and training that helps more Commerce City residents get jobs that provide them opportunity to thrive. I will support innovative projects and investments in education, including in our trade and through unions. We must come together to give more Commerce city residents more opportunities to seek a career in what they want to to thrive.
We are the center of industry for the Denver Metro Area, which is an opportunity for our city. I will support our local economy, including small businesses, local employers, and entrepreneurship. For example I would work with the city to set up an online market where businesses and residents can offer services and sell products to fellow residents. Let's put our own resources back into our own business!
I support public safety plans that are based on ALL community-input, including in our schools, in emergency response, and in communities of color. We must change our systems to see the goal for cities to be first and foremost, protecting all community members. We must remove the "policing" issues with training of public safety officers to first seek ways to help people in crisis, rather than punish them.
We must create better public safety systems, which must also be done from the inside-out. I will support training on community needs and internal bias for every city staff, including in our public safety departments.
